MAAS Finland

(Martial Arts All Styles Internationalin Suomen edustaja)

MAAS Finland is Martial Arts All Styles (MAAS) International's official representation in Finland.. It is not a traditional sports federation that dictates strict rules or requires exclusive membership. Instead, it operates as a network.with the purpose of supporting and uniting enthusiasts and clubs of all martial arts, emphasizing openness, flexibility, and independence.

1. Philosphy and principles

MAAS International's core values and principles are:

  • Network vs. Association: MAAS International considers itself more of a network than a strict federation. This means that it aims to create connections and opportunities for collaboration, but does not force clubs or individuals to detach themselves from other federations or organizations.
  • Supporting independence One of MAAS International's guiding principles is supporting the independence of its members. It does not dictate rules or expectations for the training of disciplines or clubs, but instead allows space for the individual development and curriculum of each discipline and club.
  • Cooperation The organization encourages collaboration between different martial arts and even with other federations. The goal is to share information, learn from each other, and broadly promote the practice of martial arts.
  • Creating opportunities: MAAS strives to create a framework for development and advancement in martial arts, whether it's through belt exams, training courses, or international connections.

Operations in Finland:

MAAS Finland's operations in Finland focus on several areas:

  • MAAS Finland Dan College (Karate): This is one of MAAS Finland's activities. It is specifically designed for karate enthusiasts who, for example, have taken a break from training or are looking for a more flexible path for their development.
    • Personal training plans he College helps create individual training plans that take into account the enthusiast's life situation, any physical limitations, and goals.
    • Support for returning It offers support and guidance to those returning to karate after a break, helping them rediscover their own path.
    • Community The College aims to create connections between those restarting and other karate enthusiasts.
    • Belt examination opportunities Kollegion kautta on mahdollista suorittaa vyökokeita, ja sen myöntämät vyöt ovat MAAS Internationalin hyväksymiä. Esimerkiksi Tayo Ryu Karate on auditoinut tyylisuuntansa MAAS Internationalin prosessin mukaisesti.
  • Camps and seminars: MAAS Finland regularly organizes multi-style camps and seminars. These events bring together representatives of different martial arts from Finland and abroad, offering the opportunity to learn about different styles and techniques.
    •
  • International networking: MAAS Finland acts as a link between Finnish martial arts enthusiasts and the international MAAS International network. This enables the exchange of information, collaboration, and participation in international events.

Key people and membership:

  • Mr. Sami Koivumäki: Serves as the official Country Representative for Finland for MAAS Finland and is also the Membership Administrator for MAAS International.
  • Membership: Membership in MAAS International, and thus MAAS Finland, is open to individual enthusiasts as well as clubs/dojos. It is designed to be easily accessible and allows the practice of martial arts without restrictive federation obligations.
